March is a glorious month in Alaska - 12 hours of day light (8am to 8pm) people crawl out of their igloos with smiles on their faces, the temperatures are above zero which means short sleeves and no coats, and the animals wake up and eat the locals. Awesome
No for real - a woman was recently out for a Jog - enjoying the weather - and was eaten by wolves, another great reason for me to not Jog, also it makes me tired.....
Another important part of spring in Alaska is the "Nenana Ice Classic" this is a state wide betting pool. Sort of like choosing your bracket for March Madness, only instead of basketball teams you chose a variety dates hours and minutues when you think "break- up" will occur. Break-up officially starts the moment a tripod placed on the river ice moves enough so that a line attached to it stops a clock on shore. Thus the ice has broken and spring has sprung! That usually happens in late April or early May. - It's actually taken quite seriously - people spend much of their free time reading past weather reports, drilling holes in the ice, and performing "scientific calculations" to increase their chances of choosing the right time. It's 5 dollars a guess and the winner takes all (usually around $250,000)
I promise if we win we will give anyone who reads this blog an all expenses paid trip to Alaska.

That's me! That's me! That's me! I will begin researching immediately!
